About Our Club

The Las Positas Fencing Center is a dream project started by Coach Sophie Rheinheimer.

Wanting a local convenient location for her fencers, Sophie created the Las Positas Fencing Center in March 2002. The first classes were held at a small dance studio in Dublin. In May 2002, the fencing center relocated to Dania Hall then to Foresters Hall in Livermore until June 2005.

In September 2005, the fencing center reopened in its permanent location at Las Positas College's new Physical Education Complex.

The Las Positas Fencing Center is a salle for all fencers. The purpose of the Las Positas Fencing Center is:

  • To provide fencing opportunities in the Livermore Valley area for all who are interested in the sport.
  • To provide excellent instruction in the development of fencing skills from the novice to the competitor.
  • To provide a challenging learning environment so that all fencers are knowledgeable, well skilled, and confident in their abilities.
  • To foster the development of the lifelong qualities of commitment, responsibility, and dedication.
  • To provide a community atmosphere of support, congeniality, respect, and fun for all its members.

Center Rules

The fencing center is a place to train, practice, and become a better fencer. Come prepared to work. Show RESPECT at all times: for the coaches, for your partners, for yourself, for the equipment, and for the sport. Good manners will be expected of all who are at the fencing center.

  1. Be on time for your classes, lessons, and competitions.
  2. When it is time for group drills/activities, all fencers present are expected to participate.
  3. Wear appropriate footwear and clothing to fence. (No blue jeans)
  4. Keep your uniform clean and white, including your glove (if washable).
  5. Always fence, when asked to by another fencer.
  6. Everyone is expected to assist in the setup of equipment and the maintenance of the fencing center.
  7. Have FUN, and help others to have fun.

Violation of any of the above rules may lead to anything from 20 pushups to being barred from the center, depending upon the severity of the infraction and the mood of the Coach.
